Join the International Public Safety Association

For the past few years I’ve been involved with the International Public Safety Association (IPSA). IPSA is a 501c3 non-profit organized to serve all of public safety. While it’s important for each discipline to have their own membership organization, it’s equally important for these disciplines to have one organization that supports the collective, encouraging and supporting partnerships and cooperation before, during, and after emergencies; discussing aspects of organizational management and leadership, incident management, service to our communities, and tactical cooperation.

IPSA was founded ten years ago and has members from over 40 nations representing fire, police, EMS, emergency management, telecommunications, public health, public works, hospitals, and more. IPSA runs webinars throughout the year, publishes the IPSA Journal and industry relevant reports, and holds an annual conference.

I encourage everyone to become a member and consider the following highlighted events:

IPSA 2023 Conference

The International Public Safety Association (IPSA) is holding their annual conference on May 1 and 2 in beautiful Mesa, Arizona. With the understanding that large incidents and disasters require a team effort, the IPSA brings together all public safety professionals – law enforcement, fire service, EMS, telecommunications, emergency management, public health, and others – to collaborate and learn from each other in support of united preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. The annual conference is a great embodiment of that, providing in-person opportunities through two days of seminars and discussions.

This year’s conference has a great slate of presenters on topics such as active shooter/hostile event response and recovery, CBRNE, points of distribution, crowd psychology, emergency operations center management, responder wellness, and more. A light breakfast, beverages, and lunch are provided each day courtesy of our sponsors. We will also have several exhibitors at the conference.

More information on the conference is available here: https://www.joinipsa.org/Annual-Conference, including attendee registration, and additional opportunities for sponsorship and exhibitors. IPSA members receive a discount on conference registration (yes – you can become a member now to get the discount!).

As vice-chair of the IPSA board of directors, I’m looking forward to seeing you there!

IPSA Mass Casualty Symposium

On the road again!

I’m very happy to announce that, together with my friend and colleague Jon Stewart from Dewberry, I will be presenting at the International Public Safety Association’s (IPSA) Mass Casualty Symposium being held on May 2-3 in Mesa, Arizona.

I’ve been a member of IPSA since last year and my company, Emergency Preparedness Solutions, LLC is proud to be a sponsor of this year’s Mass Casualty Symposium. IPSA is a non-profit corporation supporting the entire public safety community, providing opportunities for public safety to cross train and network across all disciplines. It’s a fairly new organization that is growing wonderfully and providing a lot of great information through collaboration. You can get more information on IPSA here, including how to become a member.

The MCI Symposium is bringing together a full range of public safety professionals, including first responders, emergency management, 911, and more; from the US and Canada to discuss topics related to mass casualty incidents. Presentation topics will include active shooter, incident communications, mental health, preparedness, response, and recovery. Jon and I will be presenting on the Nexus of Mass Casualty Incidents and Mass Fatality Incidents, which can often exist in the same incident.

We’d love to see you in Mesa in May! You can find information on the Symposium here, including registration information.
